About Us
It would be foolish to think that today, entrepreneurship is in its infancy in Africa.
Entrepreneurs have shaped the course of events and markets across Africa for centuries - from the days of the early adventurers and discoverers through the imperial and colonial eras to modern day enthusiasts, major corporations and every day business men and women. What's different today is the influence and pace of technology on entrepreneurship. These are accelerating entrepreneurship faster than ever before.
However hard it may be to measure, we believe a disproportionately high number of businesses fail in Africa than in other parts of the world. By businesses, we mean startups, sole proprietorships, major corporations' forays into African markets and even personal and/or family projects undertaken with the hopes of converting to real businesses. More people go to Africa to start the same businesses that others have failed in. Most times, young entrepreneurs believe they're pioneers in new markets whereas in reality, they're walking into business graveyards and do not have the experience, knowledge and foresight that earlier pioneers learned, albeit through trials and errors. Some typical challenges of operating a business in Africa include the opacity of business and tax laws, the occasional unscrupulousness of business partners, the all-too-famous red tape involved in setting up and managing a business, and so much more.
FailfastInAfrica seeks to level the playing field, by providing a platform where new and seasoned business women and men can share ideas and learn from one another, and in the process, help each other succeed. We do this by:
-
Inviting entrepreneurs to have their business ideas validated by seasoned entrepreneurs who are familiar with particular local markets
-
Serving as a platfrom for entrepreneurs to share their stories and lessons learned, their triumphs and their trials, with the goal of helping others
